Corría el año 2000, yo ya trabajaba en el cine y uno de los próximos estrenos fuera de temporada alta era una película protagonizada por Jim Carrey, actor que en lo particular me gusta mucho, desde la primer vez que yo lo vi en “The Mask” y “Dumb & Dumber” con Jeff Daniels, pasando por “Ace Ventura” y sin olvidar su personificación de Riddler en “Batman Forever”, pues bien los carteles eran chistosos un Carrey con traje setentero y con la luz de un escenario en la cara y el otro una cara de Carrey en la imagen de la luna, nada que llamara realmente mi atención.

Cuando llego el estreno no hubo mucha audiencia, es más ni a mi me llamaba mucho la atención, hasta que por aburrimiento entre a verla, pues era la película más cercana en tiempo, y ohh sorpresa que me lleve, la película era una biografía de otro comediante norteamericano que en su tiempo, modifico los estándares de la comedia tradicional y lleno su vida de tantas actividades estrambóticas y muchas veces ni la misma audiencia le entendía, la actuación de Carrey fue muy buena dejando afuera el papel de comediante e internándose totalmente a la vida de Andy Kaufman, aquel revolucionario comediante del que muchos después hablaron.

En aquella ocasión quede fascinado con la película y en espera de saber más acerca de Andy Kaufman, el Internet fue de gran ayuda y me entere que las cosas extrañas de la película en verdad sucedieron y hay registros en video de eso, se hicieron programas especiales en EU y que gracias a la televisión de paga pude ver, en fin, a aparte de ser fan de Jim Carrey, ahora también soy fan de Andy Kaufman y aquí esta la letra de una rola que REM. grabo en 1992 y le dio el titulo a la película mencionada:
